Mary Jane (Sobecki) Skiba, 88, of Toledo, OH passed away peacefully at Hospice of NW Ohio Saturday, February 27, 2021. She was born on March 26, 1932 to John and Mary Sobecki. She married Norman A. Skiba on August 19, 1953 at St. Adalbert's Church.

Mary Jane was a graduate of St. Adalbert's School and Woodward High School. While raising her children, she was primarily a homemaker, later working part time at Stanley's Market on Stickney in Toledo. Throughout her life, she was involved with Polish Falcons, VFW 5530 Auxiliary, Bay View Yacht Club (Past President), St. Vincent de Paul Altar Society, Toledo Telephone Pioneer Partner Volunteer, and a Sunset Village Volunteer.

Mary Jane was most lovingly called and referred to as "Busia." Family was always top priority to Busia (Mary Jane) and Dziadzia (Norm). After losing her loving husband of 49 years, she focused more on her family and friends. Busia was always at events of the grandkids and great-grandkids, and often found at their homes doing laundry or having dinner. She enjoyed playing bingo, crafting, and playing cards with her friends. She was honored to be a part of the Baba's Club. Basically, you couldn't catch her sitting still; she was always on the go and never skipped a beat.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Norm on December 3, 2002. Together, they raised five children, Ann Custer, Thomas Skiba, Nancy Wuwert, Anthony (Sherry) Skiba, Jonathan (Chris) Skiba. They were blessed with eleven grandkids, Adam Custer, Kristy (Tim) Weaver, Andy (Christine) Wuwert, Michael Skiba, Amy Custer, Kelly Skiba, Laura (Ryan) Ochmanek, Justin (Christin) Skiba, Lindsay (Jeff) Ganues, Nick Skiba and Karly Skiba. The eleven grandkids blessed them with seventeen great-grandchildren, Michael and Allison Custer, Ava, Reagan, Charlotte and Jude Weaver, Natalie, Olivia and Grant Wuwert, Ayanna Skiba, Macy Jane Mohr and Isaiah Ochmanek, Destiny Dalton and Teagan Skiba, Maverick, Bodhi and Wyatt Ganues. Busia was close with her in-law kids, Mike Custer, Terry Skiba, Butch Wuwert, and Diane McRitchie. Her nephew, Rick Sobecki, The Carr Family, and her friends at The Woodlands also held a special place in her heart.

Also preceding her in death were her father, John; mother, Mary; brothers, Norman (Bea) Sobecki and Melvin (Joanne) Sobecki; and her in-laws, Anthony and Anna Skiba, Sally (Frank) Jendrich, Clementine Skiba and Dorothy (Edward) Radon.

Busia loved to crochet for those she knew or just met. There are countless pieces of her work all over the map- whether it's a crocheted towel, pumpkin, afghan, robe, hat, the list goes on. It was fun for her to crochet and gifting the items was the only option. You could often find her at a restaurant surprising a child with a pumpkin in the Fall. She taught many how to crochet; a crochet needle was in her hands and going like wildfire no matter what she was doing. Busia never met a stranger.

Family and friends may visit on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home, 2426 N. Reynolds Rd. in from 4-8:00 p.m., and at the church from 10-11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4555 North Haven Ave. in Toledo at 11 a.m.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Woodlands, St. Anne's Hospital and Hospice of NW Ohio for their excellent care of and compassion for Busia.
