Jane S. Cutrer Obituary

Jane Cutrer, 97, died Saturday, February 27 at Nichols Center Nursing Home in Madison, MS.   A family memorial service will be held on March 27.    Jane was born in Vicksburg, MS but spent most of her married life in the Jackson MS area.  She worked as an office manager for Grants, Woodland Hills Baptist Academy, and Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic.  She and her first husband, Garland Matthews, (deceased) had a son Stevie who died at age 10 from polio. He was the joy of their life. Jane married Floyd Cutrer in 1980 and spent 25 years enjoying their blended families, travel and service to others.  They were active members of Colonial Heights Baptist Church.  During their married life she and Floyd worked with the Shriners Children Hospital in Shreveport, LA and enjoyed many events, trips, and friends with this organization. Jane was excellent with handiwork.  Her hands were never idle.  She was a great seamstress and always worked with her hands for a personal item for others in need or for friends and family.  Jane volunteered at Baptist Hospital aiding family members in the Third floor ICU waiting room.  She also made baby clothes for still born infants and would spend hours shopping for just the right color thread and cloth. She embroidered the volunteer jackets with “Volunteer” to help identify them apart from employees and made lap robes for patients in wheelchairs.  She lovingly gave over 400 hours per month to these services.   She was also given a special recognition from Hospice Ministries for the numerous lap blankets she lovingly crocheted for the residents.   As a widow she moved to The Orchard where she resided for 10 years and was instrumental in beginning a Sunday School Class and church services at The Orchard.  She moved to Nichols Center in 2017 Jane’s parents, both husbands, son and sister, Frances Albrecht, preceded her in death. Jane is survived by nephews Greg Albrecht (Margaret) of Baton Rouge LA, Frank Albrecht (Joan) of La Place, LA along with 3 great nieces.  Other survivors are step daughter Linda Hayward (Dennis) of Ridgeland, MS, step daughter Joy McFarland (George) of Natchez, MS, step granddaughter, Jennifer Higginbotham (Bobby) of Jackson, MS, step grandsons, Jason McNair (Peyton) of Greenville, SC, Phil McFarland (Rene’) of Covington, LA and Greg McFarland (Donna) of Clinton, MS, She is also survived by ten step great grandchildren who loved her dearly and two great great grandchildren.  She always attended any special events for the families. She was such a lovely lady who was a faithful Christian and touched so many lives.  Her sweet spirit will be missed.    Matthew 25:21:  “Well done, good and faithful servant.  You have been faithful now enter into the Joy of your Lord.” (paraphrased)
