Edward Howard Jr. Obituary

EDWARD LINCOLN HOWARD, JR. was born on March 23, 1941 in Newark, New Jersey. He was the only son of the late Edward Howard, Sr. and Mary Lillie (McNeil) Jackson. Edward was fondly called “Len” by his side of the family, and called “Eddie” by his wife side of his family and his friends. He attended the Passaic, New Jersey School System for his childhood education; and graduated from the Passaic Senior High School on June 22, 1960. On June 27, 1960, five days after his high school graduation, Eddie join the United States Armed Forces. He served in the air force for six years, leaving with a honorable discharge on June 26, 1966. Upon his retirement from the military, Eddie began advancing his education by attending Essex County College, in Newark, New Jersey. He graduated from Essex County College on August 2, 1972 receiving an Associate of Arts degree. He then continued his education by receiving a full scholarship to Fisk University, in Nashville, Tennessee. He completed his education at Fisk University receiving a Bachelor of Education Degree in June 1975. Eddie’s career of employment was with Northern Telecom, a multinational telecommunications and data networking equipment manufacturing company headquartered in Ontario, Canada. Working in the New Jersey branch of Northern Telecom, Eddie quickly advanced into management. After completing extensive training from the U.S. headquarter located in Raleigh, North Carolina, he became a Project Manager. He traveled regularly to numerous U.S. installation job work sites, supervising employees in telecommunication installation and system operations. Eddie enjoyed traveling back and forth to Raleigh NC for continued training, because it always gave him the opportunity to visit with his North Carolina family while he was there. He retired from Northern Telecom in 2004. Eddie had a great talent and love for photographing; and had his own photography business for many years. Although he loved photography, Eddie’s passion was “riding motorcycles”. Eddie LOVED…… riding his motorcycles. During his years of riding Eddie endured two critical motorcycle accidents; however, this did not put fear in him nor deter him from getting back on his bike and continue riding. He was a longtime member of a motorcycle club called “Lefty’s” until the passing of the owner. He then joined the Newark Knights Motorcycle Club where he remained a member until health issues prevented him from further riding. In 2009, Eddie came out of retirement and went back into the workforce as a Substitute School Teacher. For ten years he taught a mixture of grades (kindergarten through six grade). All the teachers and students loved him. He enjoyed his job, and experienced a lot of fun teaching young children. Eddie departed this life on February 24, 2021 at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, New Jersey. His passing was one month short of his 80th birthday. Eddie was predeceased by his parents, Edward Howard, Sr. and Mary Lillie (McNeil) Jackson. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Elizabeth Howard of the home; his sister, Shirley Lipscomb of San Diego, CA; his son, Edward (Jacckiee) Howard, III of Dunellen NJ; his two daughters, Eve-Lynn (Clifford) Clarke of Fort Wayne IN and Estelle Monica Howard of Hillside NJ; his stepson, Vernon Wardrick of Sayreville NJ; four, brother-in-laws; six, sister-in-laws; six grandchildren, Camille, Nicole, Alex, Morgan, Clifford, Jr., and Nicolas; his Nieces and Nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
