Albert Taylor

On February 23, 2021, Albert Carlos Taylor "Carlie", passed away at Flower Hospital. He was 80 yrs old, born on March 7th, 1940 to James Hayes Taylor and Alma Barbour in Maysville, Kentucky. Albert moved to Toledo, OH in 1952. He graduated from Woodward Highschool in 1958. He joined the Airforce as a MP in 1959 to 1967, stationed in Turkey. After a honorable discharge, he moved back to Toledo and attended The University of Toledo, earning his bachelors degree in criminal justice and at the same time becoming a Toledo Police Officer in 1967.<br><br>Albert fought for the civil rights of African American officers to be promoted in the force. He became president of the Afro American Patrolmen's League in 1975. He was finally promoted to Sergeant in 1979 after 22 years on the police force. He retried in 1989 and had a series of jobs as a security guard and transporting inner city teenagers to certain jobs and school. Suffering from dementia around 2009 he had a difficult time living alone and ultimately moved in with his daughter Alysha Dixon in 2012. Then was later placed in a nursing home in 2019-2020. <br><br>Albert was a member of Phillips Temple CME Church. Also, he was a Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge #129 and in the Windjammers VanCLub. He loved organizing events like Toledo Day, putting together fundraisers and throwing cabarets for the community. Albert was an avid bowler most of his adult life with a few 300 games under his belt. At one point in time he was the manager of Toledo's own Elusions. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alma Taylor; siblings, Barbara Barnes, James (Jimmy) Taylor Jr., Catherine (Sissy) Harris, Cheryl (Diant) Sutton, Robert (Sonny) Taylor Sr., Lansing Clifford Taylor and Kevin Taylor.<br><br>Albert is survived by his children, Albert (Chanel) C. Taylor Jr., James E. Taylor, Denise Louise Taylor, Anthony (Tony) Taylor and Alysha (Mike) Dixon; sister, Thelma (Rita) Spears; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
