Obituary
Joy Wallschlaeger was born on January 29, 1949 to Harvey and Gladys Redlin in Milwaukee, WI, and she went to join her Lord on February 23, 2021 after battling pancreatic cancer for 3 years. She and her parents lived on South Layton Blvd, and she graduated from South Division High School in 1966. She went on to college at UW-M, where she met her future husband David, and ultimately graduated with a teaching degree from UW LaCrosse in 1971.
She and David were married at Ascension Lutheran Church on June 26, 1971, and she taught Science at both Brown Deer and Oak Creek High Schools for several years before she came to St. Mary Catholic School in the fall of 1975 where she taught History and Social Studies until she retired after 41 years in 2017, but, because she loved the kids, she continued to do the morning day care until it stopped in 2020 due to the Covid outbreak.
Joy is survived by her husband, David, and two children, Amy, a middle school English teacher at several Milwaukee and Racine area Catholic Grade Schools and now a 2nd grade teacher at Hope Christian School in Milwaukee, and Todd, who has just received his Masters of Theology degree and has served at several nondenominational churches in the Milwaukee area. She is further survived by two brother-in-laws, Donald (Molly) their children Ella & Samantha and Dean (Melissa) and their son Ian in California, a special cousin, Marsha Stein, in North Carolina and other family and friends.
She loved to travel with her family, with frequent trips to Disney World, cruises to Europe, the Mediterranean, Hawaii and the Caribbean and, much to David's chagrin, buying Disney trinkets and jewelry all along the way. Her dad had named her well, as she was a true Joy to everyone who knew her. Memorials to St Mary's Parish School are appreciated.
