Francis C. Lopez "Frank" of Franklin, age 72, passed away Wednesday, February 24th, 2021 at his home with his loving wife at his side. He married the love of his life, Maureen (Roman), at age 18 and for over 50 years had devoted his life to his family, his daughter Rosanna (Scott) Jahnke, their children Brandon and Justin, his son David (Rebecca) Roman and their children Gianna, Leo, Zane and Emery. He was without a doubt the best ever "Dad" and "Papa" to his children and grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister, Sharon (John) Cotter and other relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister. As a young man Frank volunteered to serve his country and was a proud member of the US Army in the 82nd Airborne Division of Fort Bragg, N.C. Through these years he rose in rank and obtained his Sharpshooter Badge for marksmanship. After his retirement he continued his passion to give of himself to help his fellow veterans whenever he could. He became a familiar face around the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Medical Center. He was a member of the VA Voluntary Services Executive Committee, Memorial Day Planning Committee and a very dedicated member of the "No Veteran Dies Alone" Program, a volunteer program that provides a fellow veterans presence and compassion to assure that they are comforted and are not alone at the end of life. His drive to make things the best and to care for a veteran as if it was a brother, a son, or his family of his own made the events unforgettable. His sincere passion and love will make Frank an unforgettable volunteer at the VA. The voluntary services department and the veterans at the VA will definitely feel the impact of the loss of a fellow veteran and best friend. His sincere compassion for others will make his absence from the voluntary services department without a doubt a devastating loss. He will be missed by many at the VA. Frank was also a valuable member of the American Veterans "AMVETS" and for many years held the State Amvets Deputy Representative position, here he was a Veteran Advocate and assisted with many fundraising events. Frank was also a classic car enthusiast and owned a '65’ Chevelle which he lovingly called "Mr. Blue". He was a member of the Drifters Classic Car Club and attended and showed Mr. Blue at many car shows. Mr. Blue often was favorite of many and winning a variety of awards for a car in its class. Frank loved attending sporting events of his grandchildren and could always be heard cheering in the stands. He was a wonderful grandpa and his grandchildren were always first in line for his time, he deeply loved each one of them. Papa you were our ray of sunshine each day and you will be deeply missed. Our many memories of the good times will slowly help turn our tears to smiles over time as we heal. You FOREVER will be in our hearts. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses, doctors and other staff at both the VA and Horizon Hospice for their dedication, support and loving care. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday May 13th at Hartson Funeral Home, 11111 W. Janesville Rd Hales Corners, 53130, from 5pm to 7pm followed by a prayer service at 7pm.
