Irene Vera Gonzalez Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Sister Irene Vera Gonzalez.  Irene passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Sunday, February 21, 2021.

Irene was born on July 09, 1947, to Joe and Martha Vera and remained a proud lifetime resident of Oxnard.  She attended Ramona Elementary and Oxnard High School.  Irene was overjoyed when she found herself featured on the front cover of a recent book titled "Growing Up In La Colonia", the barrio she was proud to have been raised.

Irene was happily married to the love of her life J. Eladio Gonzalez for over 40 years where they had two children whom she reminded daily just how much she loved them.  Irene was ecstatic to see her grandson Kevin Swanson II grow throughout the years and was looking forward to his high school graduation and see him off to college this year.

Irene worked at the Oxnard Police Department from 1987 until her retirement as an Office Assistant to the Chief of Police in 2014.  There she was known for her kind spirit, upbeat personality and her great fashion sense.  She made an endless amount of friends there at the Oxnard Police Department including her best friend Judy Gilson.

Irene enjoyed cooking, baking, shopping, dancing, watching her novelas and the Hallmark channel, and making people laugh.  She had a warm heart and open arms for everyone she met.  Irene loved spoiling her children, grandchildren, godchildren, nieces, nephews, and fur babies.

Irene is survived by her loving husband J. Eladio Gonzalez, son Randy Gonzalez, daughter Diana Swanson, grandson Kevin Swanson II, stepson Sam (Cristina) Gonzalez, grandchildren Sammy, Andy and Maleah Gonzalez and siblings Gloria (Birdy) Meraz, Yolanda Taylor, Joey Vera, MaryAnne (Adan) Vieyra, Laura (Ramon) Ortega and Sonia Vera.

She is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Martha Vera, sister Elizabeth Vera and sister-in-law Norma Vera.
