Virda L. George Obituary

Virda George, 93, of Bourbon, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Mercy Hospital – Washington. Virda Lucille George was born in Bourbon, MO, on October 30, 1927, to Roy and Bertie (Farris) Smith. She grew up and attended school at the Zion Country School. Virda later married Lytle George on April 8, 1941. To this union six children were born: Dave, Don, Wilma, Linda, Pat and Kim. Together, they raised their family in Bourbon in the early 60’s. For many years, Virda and her husband worked their farm together. Virda especially loved the farm. She also enjoyed canning, planting, tending to her flowers and caring for their animals. She spent many years caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. Virda was very creative and enjoyed making quilts, clothing and crocheting. She also loved dancing and was known to be an excellent cook. Virda is survived by her three sons: Dave George and wife, Mary, of Bourbon, Don George of Camdenton, MO, and Wayne Weppner and wife, Betty, of Sullivan; four daughters: Wilma Pratt of Waynesville, Linda King and husband, Jim, of Leasburg, Pat Bunton of Leasburg, MO, and Kim Bell and husband, Jim, of Bourbon; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lytle; her parents; two sons-in-law, Elvin and Don; a daughter-in-law, Sharon; three brothers, Elmer, Ernest and Francis Smith; and three sisters: Mary McMillan, Rosie Turnbull and Annie Smith. Visitation will be 9:30 AM – 11 AM, Friday, February 26, 2021 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Funeral Services will be 11 AM, Friday, February 26, 2021 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Pastor Matt Dudley officiating. Interment will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Sullivan.
