Assunta Granata Obituary

     Assunta Granata, age 90, died peacefully at home on Monday, February 22, 2021.  She was the loving wife of the late Mario Granata who passed in 1997.  Born in Tremensuoli, Italy on November 2, 1930, Assunta was the daughter of the late Carmen and Luisa (Palazzo) Caiazzo and was a longtime Norwalk resident.  She had worked as a seamstress for Rissolo Sportswear in Norwalk, worked at Shoprite and retired from Pepperidge Farms.  Assunta enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing.  She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and would spoil them with her cooking whenever she could.  She will be dearly missed.

     Survivors include two sons, Mark Granata and his wife Patti, and Michael Granata, her daughter Maria Luisa Pidlipchak and her husband John, her sister Tommasina DiCecca, grandchildren Mark and Melissa, Mike and Katie, Emma and Lindsey, great grandchildren Penny, Grady, Filomena and Sonny, as well as many nieces and nephews.  Assunta was also predeceased by her brothers Ferdinando and Joe Caiazzo, and her sister Anna Gallo.

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday, February 25, at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.  Masks and social distancing will be required.  Assunta’s family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Wednesday from 5-7 PM (limited to 25 people at a time, also requiring masks and social distancing.  In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be made to VITAS Healthcare, 488 Main Ave, 3rd floor, Norwalk, CT, 06851, (www.vitas.com).
