Louis Daniel Cook, 88, of Hayesville passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at his residence. He was a native of Ashburn, Georgia, but had lived most of his life in Tampa and Bradenton, Florida before moving to this area in 1982. Louis was a graduate of Manatee High School in Bradenton. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army as a tank and dozer operator stationed in Korea near the 38th parallel. Louis had been wounded by a mortar round during the war. He was a mechanic with Ford in Florida for 18 years, and he was owner and operator of Auto Air Business for eighteen years. Locally, Louis worked in construction and did not retire until the age of 80. He was a member of the Hayesville American Legion Post 532 and Shady Grove Baptist Church in Hayesville. He was the son of the late Leroy and Julia Morris Cook and was the husband of his late first wife, Suzanne Reynolds Cook. Louis was also preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Cook; step-son, Michael Barnes; and sister, Donna Barnes. Surviving are his loving wife, Mary Ledford Cook; four daughters, Diana Lowery and husband, Donald, of Sharpsburg, Georgia, Julie Edwards, of Land O’ Lakes, Florida, Sheila Clouchete and husband, Russ, of Hayesville, and Amanda Johns and husband, Steve, of Hayesville; two sons, T.J. Flahive and wife, Linda, of Clearwater, Florida, and Michael Cook, of St. Petersburg, Florida; seventeen grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life was held 11:00 AM on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Hayesville with the Reverend David Feathers officiating. Inurnment took place in the church cemetery with military honors provided by Murphy American Legion Post 96, Hayesville VFW Post 6812, and Hayesville American Legion Post 532.
