Obituary

On Saturday, February 20, 2021, Marcellyn Roberta Mack passed away at the age of 73.

Born with Cerebral Palsy on July 14, 1947, in Minneapolis MN, Marcy’s life was a series of overcoming challenges. Her determination, strength of character, boundless energy and endless curiosity has been an inspiration to all who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing her.

Preceded in death by her parents, Marcellus A. and Della M. Mack (nee Sandlan), and survived by her brother, Marcellus A. Mack Jr. and sisters, Deborah K. Mack and Stana M. Mack, much loved niece, Amy L. Rhodes (nee Otto), cousins, nieces and nephews.  She will be truly missed by her close and supportive friends and those within her developmental disabilities community.

Marcy spent her early education at the Michael J. Dowling School for Crippled Children in Minneapolis.  She went on to graduate from Roosevelt High School where she displayed an aptitude for mechanical drafting.  Despite her disabilities, Marcy was proud to have lived independently for most of her life in apartments adorned with the many puzzles she assembled.  She was an avid movie watcher with an extensive collection and enjoyed knitting hats and scarfs.  Marcy spent many happy years working at the YWCA on Lake Street and relaxed for two weeks each summer at the Camp Courage campuses in Maple Lake and Bemidji.  Marcy, with her hair dyed crazy colors, could often be seen scootering up and down Minneapolis streets, all the while making friends out of strangers.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Marcy’s Dungarvin group home, specifically Abi, Keisha, Linda, Ulo and Felicia, who cared so lovingly for her.

A private family memorial service will be held.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would prefer memorial donations sent to Camp Courage / True Friends.  Donations may be made at their website:  www.truefriends.org
