Stephannie Kathleen Gordash Yachimec Etobicoke, Ontario Obituary

Stephannie Kathleen Gordash Yachimec

“Stevie” passed away at Wellington Park Care Centre in Burlington, Ont. at the age of 104 years and two months. Born in Darling, Alberta, she and her former husband Peter moved to Toronto in 1942 and soon became active members of the Ukrainian Canadian community. She served for many years on the executives of various ladies/wives clubs, often as vice president or treasurer, including Rotary Wives, Ukrainian Professionals’ Wives, Local Council of Women of Toronto, the museum at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Institute, and was a tireless volunteer with many organizations. She was an amazing cook and baker, and loved to entertain in her home and enjoy dinner parties with friends. She was also a talented artist and seamstress, making her daughter’s childhood clothing and Ukrainian costumes from scratch, and crocheting lace tablecloths. Beloved mother of Joanne Lee Yachimec Infantino (Spring Creek, Virginia USA), she is also survived by her sister Marci Gordash (Victoria, BC). She was predeceased by her husband Peter, brother John Gordash and sister Jeanne Nichols. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, sadly her daughter will not be able to travel to Toronto to hold a funeral service. Interment will be in the cemetery at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Church in Darling, which her father co-founded, and near her parents, late brother John, and late sister-in-law Pauline Gurba Gordash. Sincere gratitude is extended to the staffs at Ivan Franko Home in Mississauga and Wellington Park for their wonderful care in her final years. Someone once wrote: “there is no love like a parent’s for their child, but there is also no love like a child’s for a parent, our teachers of unconditional love.” ❤ Don’t worry, mum, I will visit your final resting place when I can. Vichnaya Pamyat.
