Judith (Judy) Allen Dudley Obituary

Judith (Judy) Allen Dudley of Dunwoody, Georgia passed away peacefully in her home Friday evening, February 12, 2021. She will always be remembered for bringing joy to those who knew her throughout her 89 years of life. After reading Mark Twain’s “A Heart So Large” as a child, her son Andy felt the following verse described her perfectly: My mother had a slender, small body, but a large heart – a heart so large that everybody’s joys found welcome in it, and hospitable accommodation. She was born July 3, 1931 in Hartford, Connecticut to her parents Gladys R Allen and Harold W Allen, both from Maine. She attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine and graduated in 1953 while her future husband, Frank, graduated a year earlier. They married September 12, 1953 and remained so for the next 67 years. She is survived by her sister-in-law Jean R Dudley, and her three sons and their wives Jeff and Nan, Steve and Amy, and Andy and Jocelyn. She is also survived by her granddaughters Hannah, Gabby, Bella, Jacklyn, Cortney, and Melissa and grandsons Brett and Andrew and great grandchildren Taylor and Mackenzie. She worked part-time with her own business, the Dunwoody Newcomer Service, for many years where she utilized her degree in sociology in welcoming new residents to Dunwoody. She spent more than 50 years living in Dunwoody and loved playing tennis with her neighborhood friends, gardening, and swimming at the pool. After Frank and Judy retired, they spent time volunteering with a horse rescue group that work to recuperate those that have been abused. They loved traveling to Kentucky numerous times to stay in a shaker village outside Lexington, described as a warm beacon of hospitality for more than 200 years. They also loved spending time watching Andrew play in his baseball, basketball, roller hockey, and soccer games. They traveled with family and friends to the Bahamas and Barbados, and numerous times to Europe. She traveled with Frank up and down the east coast for class reunions at Bates to see life-long friends or to the Golden Isles of Georgia for some rest and relaxation in Fernandina Beach, Florida. After Frank had a stroke, she spent much of her time taking care of him. She did all she could for him and had to miss a lot of her grandson’s games to take care of him. That’s just who she was, always caring for others before herself. She was the heart and soul of the family. You were the best mom. As your mother used to say to me “bless your heart”. She must have said it to you also because you blessed us all. May you rest in peace! On-line condolences may be made at www.crowellbrothers.com. Arrangements entrusted to Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory, 5051 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092. 770-448-5757.
