Maxie H. Spence was born on November 6, 1921, in Hanover, Jamaica, British West Indies. He came to the United States in the 1950’s and settled in New Jersey. There he met Carlita. She remained the love of his life throughout their 50 years of marriage. Maxie worked at varied occupations, including real estate. In 1990, Maxie and his wife moved to Winter Springs, Florida. Maxie spent his retirement years doing what he loved: reading, watching football games and old movies, listening to classical music, gardening, and tinkering with anything mechanical. In his later years, he enjoyed the company of two friends who he called “his angels.” His nephew Lar remembers him as a kind and loving man who always looked after him like a father. Maxie is predeceased by his wife Carlita and by his brother Melvin and sister Winnie. He is survived by his son Michael, his brother Guy, sister-in-law Malga, and numerous nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
