Ivan Murphy Obituary

Ivan Phines Murphy, 88, of Carthage, passed away at 10:00 AM Thursday morning, February 18, 2021 at the Silver Maple Care Center in Carthage.

Ivan was born September 18, 1932, the son of Phines Brown and Lela Mae (Seigfried) Murphy near Ferris, Illinois.  He attended Carthage High School graduating in 1950.  Ivan served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  On February 20, 1955, he was united in marriage to Patricia Ann “Patt” Bettisworth at the First Christian Church (DOC) in Carthage.  Ivan was a life-long farmer and had owned Murphy Construction.  Ivan would take his daily trip to the farm to see what was going on.  He especially enjoyed when his grandsons would help him into the combine where he would ride until he thought grandma was tired of waiting.  Harvest was always his favorite time of the year.  He had also owned a NASCAR race team.  Ivan was a member of the Ferris Christian Church and had served as a deacon and treasurer for many years.  One of the highlights of the year was Labor Day Weekend when the family would gather for a family reunion.  He was very proud of his family.

Ivan is survived by his wife, Patt, of Carthage; six daughters, Patrice (Bob Osborne) Squier of Carthage, Paula (Rusty) Williams of Quincy, Tami (Jim) Servis of Winter Park, Florida, Julie Phillips of Carthage, Kimberly (Walt) McComb of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Dixie (Chris) Patton of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; fourteen grandchildren; and many great grandchildren; one brother, Ray Murphy of Florida; and two sisters, Karen Murphy of Carthage and Donna Ganion of Kansas City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Barbara Rohlf; and a son-in-law, Robert Phillips.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 22, 2021, at the Ferris Christian Church with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with family meeting friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.  Memorials may be directed to the Ferris Christian Church or the Wounded Warrior’s Project.  Printy Funeral Home in Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
