Mary W. Maconi Obituary

Mary Adelia West Maconi, 99 years young, passed away on February 8, 2021 in Jacksonville FL. She was born on February 5, 1922 in Lawrenceville, PA, to the late Orren “Jack” West and Margaret “Maddie” Davis West.

Mary was raised in Wellsboro, PA, where she and her three older brothers grew up on the family’s dairy farm. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Mansfield State Teacher’s College. After college, she moved to Branford CT, and taught kindergarten. There, she met a dashing Naval officer, Richard “Dick” Maconi, whom she married in 1947. After briefly residing in Summer Island, they settled in nearby North Haven for over 30 years and raised a family of five children. By the 1980s, they had emptied their nest, moved to the Long Island Sound shoreline in Sachems Head and eventually to nearby Guilford CT. There she and her husband raised four of their grandchildren. In addition to cultivating her children’s interests, Mary also engaged in volunteer activities to support her church and community, including leading her local garden club. In 2003, she and her husband moved to Fleming Island, FL where they lived out the rest of their golden years.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ronald West, Stuart West and Foster West; husband, Richard Maconi; and daughter, Pamela Maconi Hershorin nee Fletcher.

Mary is survived by her four children, Richard “Wes” Maconi, Mary Lee Lam, Jill Maconi, and Donald Maconi; ten grandchildren, Curtis Lam, Sarah Lam, Carrie Lam, Amy Lam, Matthew Lam, Emily Lam, Peter Fletcher, Douglas Fletcher, Melinda Maconi, and Kristina Maconi and four great-grandchildren, Shota Lam, Hiroto Lam, Owen Lam, and Joshua Lam.

Of all the things in her long life, Mary loved most of all, her family. Although she will be greatly missed, all who knew her are grateful she has reunited with beloved family and friends who preceded her in death.

A virtual memorial will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021.  Please contact family for details.
