York, Maine-Leah E. Nowell, 95 of Beech Ridge Rd., passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021 in Portsmouth Regional Hospital. 

 

She was born February 27, 1925 in South Berwick, Maine a daughter of the late Burpee and Bernice (Young) Hilton. 

 

Leah was predeceased by her husband Forrest D. Nowell in 1992. They raised their family, first in Kittery, then moved to York in 1958, to a house built by Forrest, where she lived the rest of her life. Leah was a homemaker and enjoyed numerous crafts, cake decorating, and gardening. She was a member of the Cape Neddick Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

 

She was predeceased by son Donald Nowell, infant son Dean Nowell, brothers Bernard Hilton, Carleton Hilton, Edward Hilton, Robert Hilton, and Warren Hilton. She is survived by daughter Judy Nowell, granddaughter Amy Nowell and husband Alan Mather, grandson Matthew Nowell, great-grandchildren Michael Carnowell, Jacob Carnowell, Katlyn Nowell and Croix Nowell, daughter-in-law Maxine Nowell, brothers Burpee Hilton and Norbert Hilton, sisters Marion Goodwin and Ruth Woodward.

 

A graveside service will be held in the First Parish Cemetery, York, Maine at a later date.
