Paul H. Crouch, Sr., 89, of Clinton Avenue, Groton passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. Paul was born May 5, 1931 in the Town of Ledyard, Cayuga County, New York, a son of the late John Henry and Elsie Cleo Allen. Born into a large family he quit school at an early age to go to work to help support the family. He married Elizabeth “Betty” M. Sovocool of Moravia in 1952 and she died on July 6, 2011. A resident of Groton for over 60 years, he became employed with Smith Corona in Groton where he worked for many years until his retirement. An accomplished handyman, he helped family, friends, neighbors and anyone else who needed it, fixing whatever was broke or needed repairing. He enjoyed woodworking and helping his son, Paul Jr., a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He also worked for several years at Zirbel Funeral Home in Groton, working funerals and doing anything else that was asked of him. Paul is survived by his children, Deborah (Gary) Hendrix and Paul (Demaris) Crouch, Jr., all of Groton; seven grandchildren, eight grandchildren, a sister, Ellas May Swearingen and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he was pre-deceased by a son, Neal in 2010 and brothers, Kenneth Merriman, Charles Crouch, Robert “Bob” Crouch and John “Al” Crouch. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Groton Rural Cemetery at a date and time to be announced. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Groton Fire Dept.
