<p>It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Wilson Archie Nettles of Darlington. Mr. Nettles transitioned on Friday, February 12, 2021 in a Cheraw hospital.&nbsp;</p> <p>Funeral service is 1:00pm on Friday, February 19, 2021 in Florence National Cemetery. Interment will follow. Please adhere to mask wearing and social distancing.&nbsp;</p> <p style="text-align: center;">Obituary</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &ldquo;For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.&nbsp; For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;~II Corinthians 5:1-2</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Mr. Wilson Archie Nettles was born February 29, 1936 in Darlington, SC, the son of the late Ada Bell Nettles.&nbsp; He entered into his final resting place on Friday, February 12, 2021 at McLeod Health-Cheraw in Cheraw, SC.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1953 as Valedictorian.&nbsp; After graduation, he chose a career in the military where he served in the United Sates Air Force and the United States Army.&nbsp; He received numerous medals and accommodations and after his tenure, he was honorably discharged.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After his military career, he made his home in Charlotte, NC where he worked various jobs.&nbsp; Later, he returned to his home, Darlington, SC where he attended Florence-Darlington Technical College and earned an Electrician&rsquo;s Degree.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &ldquo;Doc&rdquo;, as he was affectionately known, was a quiet and gentle man.&nbsp; He was extremely intelligent and well versed on every subject. He particularly enjoyed reading and writing.&nbsp; &ldquo;Doc&rsquo;, was an avid cross word puzzle enthusiast and enjoyed riding his bicycle.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In 1957, Wilson wrote and copyrighted an original song entitled, &ldquo;In My Dreams.&rdquo;</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Those left to cherish the loving memory of Wilson &ldquo;Doc&rdquo; Nettles are:&nbsp; a brother, Columbus Nettles of Baltimore, MD; a sister, Geneva Boston of Darlington, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, great grandnieces and great grandnephews; several&nbsp; cousins, other relatives and friends.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his siblings: Albert Nettles, Jessie Nettles, Frank Nettles and Ida Adams; his sisters-in-law:&nbsp; Marie Joe Nettles, Evangelist Maebell Nettles and Mary &ldquo;Mable&rdquo; Thomas Nettles; brothers-in-law: George Adams and Herbert Boston.</p> <p>Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.&nbsp;</p>

Obituary

     Mr. Wilson Archie Nettles was born February 29, 1936 in Darlington, SC, the son of the late Ada Bell Nettles.  He entered into his final resting place on Friday, February 12, 2021 at McLeod Health-Cheraw in Cheraw, SC.

     He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1953 as Valedictorian.  After graduation, he chose a career in the military where he served in the United Sates Air Force and the United States Army.  He received numerous medals and accommodations and after his tenure, he was honorably discharged.

    After his military career, he made his home in Charlotte, NC where he worked various jobs.  Later, he returned to his home, Darlington, SC where he attended Florence-Darlington Technical College and earned an Electrician’s Degree.

     In 1957, Wilson wrote and copyrighted an original song entitled, “In My Dreams.”

     Those left to cherish the loving memory of Wilson “Doc” Nettles are:  a brother, Columbus Nettles of Baltimore, MD; a sister, Geneva Boston of Darlington, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, great grandnieces and great grandnephews; several  cousins, other relatives and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his siblings: Albert Nettles, Jessie Nettles, Frank Nettles and Ida Adams; his sisters-in-law:  Marie Joe Nettles, Evangelist Maebell Nettles and Mary “Mable” Thomas Nettles; brothers-in-law: George Adams and Herbert Boston.
