Romelia Cordova Obituary

Romelia Baca Cordova went home to be with Jesus on January 7, 2021 at age 85.

Romelia “Grama Romie” was born to Inez and Rosario Baca on June 9th in Juan Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, Mexico. As a child, she grew up on a cattle ranch with 10 siblings; 7 sisters and 4 brothers. Life was not easy living on a cattle ranch as a little girl, but Christian values and strong work ethic as children helped them all become amazing adults and public servants.

Romelia met her husband, Salvador in 1956 in Casas Grandes, Mexico. They married in 1958 and went on to have one son, Salvador born in 1959. Just 20 days after Salvador was born, Romelia found herself a widow from a tragic accident. In 1960, Romelia followed her older sister, and life mentor, Virginia to San Pedro, California. Romelia went on to have 2 other children, Rachel and Danny.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother, Grama Romie also was a caregiver, a housekeeper and a nanny. She loved to serve in church, and help others. Throughout her  entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.

In 2005 she became a member of the Salvation Army Corps and followed her calling to serve God. She was a soldier (an active member of the corps), also an active member of Home League (Women's Ministries), an active member of CCM (Community Care Ministries) and she actively participated in the correction of the prisoners' exams who were taking the Salvation Army Bible curriculum studies until her final days.

Romelia joins her brother’s and sisters who have already passed in Heaven; Jesus, Genaro, Antonio, Rosa, Carolina, and Socorro. She is survived by 4 siblings: Virginia, Maria, Emma, and Raul; her 3 children: Sal, Rachel, and Dan; 7 grandchildren: Chris, Javier, Jonathan, Heather, Jefferey, Nico, Avianne and Evan; and 8 great grandchildren: Rylie, Kynslee, Macie, Cohen, Kaisen, Landon, Robin, and Payton.

Grama Romie’s Favorite verse:

Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, does not boast, it is not proud, nor rude, it is not self-seeking or easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs nor delights in evil, it rejoices with the truth, it always protects, it always trusts, it always hopes, it always perseveres.

1 Corinthians 13:4, 7-8
