Brent Ruben Joshua Dorsey Obituary

“...some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty once they're gone.” Our bright star- son, grandson, brother, nephew, uncle, friend and confidant passed away on February 10, 2021. Brent Ruben Joshua Dorsey was born on September 23, 1990, in Baltimore, Maryland. Weighing in at 9 lbs., 1oz, Brent was the largest of his mother’s 5 children, and none would argue he had the largest personality in the family as well. His smile lit up the room, and his engaging personality captivated old and young alike. Brent and two of his siblings, Eleesha and Chesler attended Spencerville Academy in Spencerville, Maryland, then graduated from Takoma Academy in Takoma Park, Maryland. Brent earned a Bachelor of Science degree in cybersecurity from the University of Maryland and was working as a cybersecurity IT specialist in the enterprise risk division of Deloitte. If you knew Brent, you knew that his love for the Philadelphia Eagles was legendary. He also loved travel and would often combine his two passions by traveling to Eagles games worldwide—even going as far as London, England for a game. There is no way you could be sad around this bright star. He always had a ready laugh or crazy anecdote. We didn’t always know if the story was true, but it didn’t matter. After he was done, you were drawn in and completely forgot what had you down in the first place. Some of Brent’s most joyous times were spent with family. He often talked about how his siblings could spend hours together and lose all track of time. He knew this was rare and felt blessed to have such a strong family bond. His extended family includes Heidi Fernandez, brothers Addis, Damien, Corey, and Jason. Sisters Linnea and Courtney and a host of adopted mothers, aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. No one understands why those we hold so dear are sometimes taken away too soon, but the family takes comfort in the words of Isaiah 57: The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. COVID restrictions prevent us from gathering, hugging, and sharing, so we ask that you take a few moments to share a story or fond memory on the wall. Brent loved to laugh, so the funnier, the better! Memorial contributions may be made at https://www.gofundme.com/f/brent-dorsey-memorial-fund
