Barbara M. Incropera Obituary

Barbara M. Incropera, age 92, passed away peacefully at the High Point Hospice Home on Friday, February 12th after a lengthy period of declining health. She was married to the late Frank S. Incropera, who passed away in July of 2018, for 68 years. She was a doting mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was loved and cherished by her family. Her family was her priority and she lived for any way that she could see or talk to them. She loved people and friends and her telephone was her best friend. It didn’t matter how often someone called her, but her greeting was always the same: “wow, I haven’t heard from you, did you forget you have a mother/grandmother?” She led a simple, disciplined and moral life. Frank and Barbara struggled to raise a family but progressed from the inner city of Lawrence to their ultimate accomplishment of a single-family home in North Andover. Despite their struggles, they emphasized education and allowed their children to attend private catholic high schools. She was deeply religious. She would never miss a mass or eat meat on Friday, even when told the Pope or Cardinal did! A hairdresser in her younger years, she could always be seen accommodating friends and family in her self-made “hair salon” in the basement of her home in North Andover. She looked forward every year to the annual Feast of The Three Saints where she could be seen selling raffle tickets adjacent to the bandstand, all the while reminiscing with old friends and family. During their earlier years, she and Frank loved to go dancing with friends and family. She looked forward to her annual summer vacation in July at in the same rustic cottage in Wells Beach, Maine. Maine was their getaway even on daily trips. They travelled to Italy, Sicily, Florida and across the country when time and finances allowed. She was very active with her Lawrence High School class of 1946 re-unions. She enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. A special thanks to her eldest grandchild, Christine Finno and her great-grandchild, Elizabeth for their unselfish care during these past several difficult years. Barbara is survived by her loving son, Steven (Sonny) Incropera and his partner Ann DiLiberti of Plymouth, MA, her devoted daughter, Diane Chrysikos and her husband Lou of Westford, MA., seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister, Elena McElroy of North Andover who was there for her every day, sisters-in-law Mary DiPrima of Salem, NH and Angie Lasley of Methuen as well as several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Josephine Compagnone of North Andover. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to the Saint Alfio Society, Lawrence, MA. For online condolences please visit www.contefuneralhomes.com
