Sally Elizabeth Crawford Obituary

Sally Elizabeth Crawford, age 81 of Sterling Heights, formerly of Rochester Hills, passed away February 12, 2021. Loving mother of Michael (Carrie) Baughman, Mark Baughman and Elizabeth (Daniel) Capizzo, cherished grandmother of Ashley, Halley, Sydney and Molly. A Memorial service will be held at a later date at the Rochester Church of Christ. Memorials in Sally’s name may be made to God’s helping hands or The Micah 6 Community. Sally was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana September 15th, 1939. However, she soon moved to Hico, Texas where she spent the majority of her childhood, before settling in Dallas, Texas. Her most precious hobby and undeniable talent was playing the flute (1st chair, most of the time) along with being in the marching band at Woodrow Wilson High School, where she graduated in 1957. Little did she know that she would be playing her flute in multiple bands later on in her life. Sally loved being a mother to her three children and her caring heart and sweet disposition made it easy for them to eventually become the best of friends. Sally was always known for having a big, bright smile and sweet, southern compassion and charm. She had a kind word for everyone she met. She was so selfless and compassionate, and anyone who knew her would say that she had this special ability to make you feel so warm and loved. Those wonderful qualities blossomed when she moved to Rochester Hills, Michigan in the winter of 1992. Why Michigan over California or Texas? That was a question this Southern Bell was constantly asked! Sally worked for The New York Times Newspaper when she lived in Dallas. Her sons were living in California and in 1988 her daughter moved to Michigan. In 1992 a retiree in the Detroit/Troy office for the New York Times offered Sally her same job. That's How Sally ended up in Michigan. One year later in December of 1993, the first of her four beautiful granddaughter's blessed us with her birth in Rochester, MI. Then in October of 2004 in Troy, MI her second granddaughter graced us with her presence and in August of 2006, her third and fourth granddaughter's made a grand entrance as fraternal twins! She loved them all so much. They were her special, beautiful girls. She always wanted to know as much as she could about them. For example how school was going, what they were currently into and what were all of the gifts that they had received during birthdays and Christmas'. During her first years in Michigan, Sally joined The Rochester Church of Christ. There, she not only gained a very loving church family but also an army of the most loving, caring, genuine group of friends, that anyone could ask for. They never stopped loving her, blessing her or extending their love and friendship to her daughter & family. The church and her friends remained present through the end and continue to extend their love, prayers, and support to her daughter & family. During this same timeframe, Sally had the privilege of playing her flute again. She made some very special friends who together joined some amazing orchestra type bands (The Belgian, Heritage and Warren). Obviously, her determination and desire to be 1st Chair had never left her. This time around she even began playing the piccolo. The bands played numerous concerts for all types of special occasions. Again, Sally was blessed by a special dear friend who drove her to and from the bands & events. As well, she shared a daily phone call with her for years and through her last days. Sally loved angels and even started a collection of them. She enjoyed watching crime shows, being driven across the country, and spending time with her family and friends. Sally had a generous heart and was the sweetest person you could ever meet. She will best be remembered for her great sense of humor and her ability to come up with a cute, southern saying for any situation. Some classic favorites: "Cotton pic", "Oh foot", "Sake's alive", "I'm fixin too...", "Pull up/Put on your britches", "God willin and the crick don't rise", and "Howdy do". Again these were just a few, but so fun to hear with that southern accent that she never lost. Sally will forever be cherished just for being "Sally". Forever loved for the countless times she would tell you just how much she loved you. Forever missed for how she always filled up any room with happiness and made it a great place to be in. "So mom, grandma, dear friend, sweet Sally...we miss and love you beyond words. We are thankful that you are pain free and excited that you get to play your flute for Jesus and that we get to see you again in Heaven. All our love"♥️
