Wayne Andrew Cook

Wayne Andrew Cook was born in Talbotton, Georgia on October 3, 1955, to the Roy S. and Rosa E. (Willis) Cook. He was the fourth oldest and second-born son. In the 1960s, Wayne’s parents moved he and his siblings to Modena, New York, then to Florida, where the family settled. The siblings would work with their parents in the fields and orchards at an early age. Wayne graduated from T. Dewitt Taylor High School in Pierson, FL in 1973. From there, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended DeVry University, and obtained his Associates Degree. During his time in Georgia, he worked in the fast-food industries, a financial institution as well as Ford Motors. After moving back to Seville, Florida, he joined his father, working in the fern fields, and later working at L & W where he cut lumber. He was last employed with Armellini Express Lines, where he worked his way up and became a Warehouse/ Terminal Supervisor for twenty years until his retirement. In the mid 1980’s he met his long time love and life companion Gay Nelle Harris of which his daughter Nikia Cook was born. After giving his life to Christ, he became a member of Ward Chapel A.M.E Church under Rev. Rozier. He served in the capacity as a Steward and Deacon within the church, and would regularly lead devotion singing his favorite hymn, “A Charge to Keep I Have”. He loved teaching all who would listen about the Bible, and he would often have deep and passionate discussions with his brothers about the Word. He was a great man of faith, taking Jesus with him everywhere he went. Wayne loved to grow vegetables in his garden, catching freshwater and saltwater fish, especially from the Flagler Beach Pier, and cooking; his infamous macaroni and cheese which was the most requested for family gatherings. Wayne also took great pride in caring for his Mother Rosa Cook up until her demise. He also loved to travel from state to state with his father Roy Cook. He cared about dressing up, especially in his church suits, and smelling good in his favorite cologne-no matter the occasion. He also loved to watch and talk about college and professional basketball and football with his family. Preceding him in death are his parents, Roy and Rosa Cook and siblings - Miriam Cook, Deborah Cook, James Cook, Vivian McDonald, Darlene Cook, and Stanley Cook. Steward/ Deacon Cook entered the Sunset of life on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Coastal Health and Rehab Daytona Beach, FL. Left to cherish his beloved memory: his loving daughter Nikia Cook of Seville, FL, fiancee, Gay Nelle Harris of Seville, FL, raised as his own son - Dewayne (Jennifer) Cook of Daytona Beach, FL, sister, Valerie (Ricky) Rhodes of Sylvania, GA, sister-in-laws, Belinda Cook of Sarasota, FL and Rosetta Cook of Crescent City, FL, God-children, Maurice Cook of Sarasota, FL and Gabbriella Burrell of Jacksonville, FL, uncles - Albert (Rochelle) Cook and Edmond “Perry” Cook both of Atlanta, GA, special nieces Sa'Mia and Sa'Mari Gibson of Deland, FL, special nephew Micah Harris of Deland, FL along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, aunts, and friends.
