Obituary

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

 Philippians 4: 6-7

On Friday, February 12, 2021, surrounded by her loving family, Joyce Van Dyk was called home by her Lord and Savior following a lengthy nine-year battle with cancer, at the age of 57.

Born in Lethbridge on September 4, 1963, she was the third of nine siblings born to Hugo and Elizabeth Van Seters.

Joyce married her childhood sweetheart on November 13, 1981.  John and Joyce’s married life started out in a small farmhouse in Cranford, Alberta while John went to school to become a Chartered Accountant. After the first four sons, John and Joyce moved to Coaldale, where the youngest 2 sons were born, and where they resided together until the time of her passing.

A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Joyce was a pillar of strength and consistency for her husband, her kids, and her grandkids.  Everything was secondary to ensuring that she instilled a living faith in her sons, and she demonstrated this through humility and love.  She is survived by John, who was the love of her life, her constant companion, and her very best friend, sons Justin (Janice) and their children (Ethan, Andon, Cohen, and Gracyn), Eric (Julianna) and their children (Sam, Sawyer, and Arthur), Mitchell (Julie), and their children (Tahlia, Oliver, and Madison), Jordan (Lindsay), and their children (Finn, Norah, and Miles), and Dylan (Rebecca), and their daughter Mayelle (with another one on the way), and Sean. She was predeceased by her mother Elizabeth Van Seters, her father-in-law Peter Van Dyk, and her sister-in-law Yvonne Van Dyk.

Words cannot express adequately how much she meant to our family, and she will be sorely missed.

A private Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 19th, 2021, at Martin Brothers Funeral Home. The service will be livestreamed and can be accessed through Joyce’s obituary on the Martin Brothers website.

In lieu of flowers, those who so desire can make donations in memory of Joyce to Compassion Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.

“Her absence is like the sky, spread over everything.”

C.S. Lewis
