Sidney Kung (August 20, 1931 - February 6, 2021) Sidney Kung, 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, February 6, 2021, following complications from spinal surgery. Sidney studied at National Taiwan University, then emigrated from Taiwan for graduate studies in 1957. He met Mary Rose during graduate school and they married while at the University of Illinois. In 1965, they settled in Jacksonville, Florida where he began a Math professorship at Jacksonville University. He would work there till 2000. Though he found his way in America, you could feel there was a part he left behind in China. Here in the US, he found a passion for Mathematics that would last a lifetime. After retiring to Cupertino, CA to be near family, he remained active in Mathematics until his passing, authoring many papers which he was very proud of. He was also very proud of his children- Sophia, Joseph, and Chuck - and enjoyed spending time with grandchildren during holidays, family birthdays, and other celebrations. He was a favorite of Chuck’s pet dog Chewie, undoubtedly because he fed him under the table. Sidney is survived by his beloved wife Mary Rose, his brother, his children, and 5 grandchildren.
