Celebrating the life of A Man Called Jazzy-Joe Joseph 'Jazzy-Joe' Lamarr Willis, a retired NYC Police Officer, was called home on February 1, 2021. Jazzy-Joe joined us on June 12, 1951 in Pittsburgh, PA. Shortly after his birth he moved to New York City where he was raised by his mother Molly D. Willis and Sister Joyce in the Bronx. His born application of self-motivation was always displayed in his stride. His self determination to defeat all forms of discrimination was well preserved within his pride. Throughout his life Joe was an accomplished athlete who won many titles and medals in Boxing, Basketball, Baseball and Track & Field. His accolades include but are not limited to; Golden Gloves Boxing Finalist in 1978, active member of the Police Athletic League creating and coaching the 'Spit Fire' Track & Field Team, winning 14 medals at the Georgia 2008 Senior Olympics in Track & Field and coaching the Blue Jay's Longmeadow, MA youth baseball team to a championship title in 2015. Jazzy-Joe dedicated his life to service and helping others in every city He lived, never missing an opportunity to help the community. Working at the Board of Elections since 1985 and most recently he volunteered at the Windsor Locks Town Hall, Food Pantry in CT. Joe is survived by his children; Chelene Tina Willis, Zoë Sugar Van-Dlyone and Joseph Lamarr Willis III; his grandchild Leilani Chelene Willis and many other nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grandnephews. He is deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. A Going Home service is scheduled for 12 noon on February 16 at Ferncliff Cemetery, 280 Secor Road, Hartsdale, NY 10530.
