David John Sundberg Calumet, Michigan Obituary

David John Sundberg

February 12, 2021 Ahmeek David J. Sundberg, 73, a resident of Ahmeek died on Friday, February 12, 2021 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on August 30, 1947 in Laurium, a son of the late Robert and Lena (Vairus) Sundberg. Dave graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1965 and from Michigan Tech in 1969 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at Michigan Tech he played for the Huskies football team and was a member of Theta Tau Fraternity. He worked for General Electric as an engineer for 31 years in five different states. For two years he taught at Minuteman Vocational and Technical School. He retired in 2000 and moved back to Ahmeek to be closer to his family. In his retirement, he worked with the Village of Ahmeek writing grants for the Ahmeek Village Fire Department, and overseeing the water and sewer department. Additionally, he served on a number of committees for Keweenaw County. He also pursued his love of fishing, farming on his 40 acres and enjoyed tinkering around his house on multiple projects. David was an avid sports fan, always attending Calumet hockey and football games, Michigan Tech hockey and football games and watching the Detroit Red Wings on TV. He was also a member of the Michigan Tech Blue Line Club. David will be remembered for his generosity, love of his family and friends and his great sense of humor. He is survived by his brother, Dennis (Susan) Sundberg, Rabbit Bay, MI; sister, Vicki (Howard) Stender, Algoma, WI; nieces and nephews, Heather Simpson, Copper City, MI; Matthew Stender, Roanoke, VA; Erin Stender (John Posey), Green Bay, WI; Lisa Conarroe, DePere, WI; and special nephew, Neil McGovern, Tahoe City, CA. A special thank you to everyone on the scene of the accident and the person that gave David their phone so he could call his brother to say he loved us all as they were trying to remove him from the accident. Also to the emergency room staff and doctors for the service and care they provided. A private funeral service will be held and public graveside service will be conducted in the spring at Lake View Cemetery. The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with the arrangements. Denza,

We are so sorry for the loss of your brother Dave. I used to stop by his farm every summer, before he sold it, and we had long conversations about nothing in particular. We both liked to B.S.

We will miss him,
