Mr. John Charles Gunn age 78 a resident of Belington West Virginia departed this life Friday evening, February 12, 2021 in the VA Medical Center at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Death was following a period of declining health. He was born October 12, 1943 at New York, NY, a son of the late Earnest and Estelle Kirkpatrick Gunn.


On February 13, 1973 he was united in marriage to the former Judy L. Jackson who survives at their home in Belington. In addition to his wife, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents were two sisters; Louise Moreo, Gertrude McCarthy, two brothers; Lester and Ray Gunn. Mr. Gunn was the last surviving member of his immediate family.


Mr. Gunn attended the schools of Brooklyn, New York and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. He retired from the US Postal Service as a postal clerk in Hialeah Florida. Mr. Gunn was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. He was a member of the Laurel Mountain VFW Post # 410 in Belington and a member of the American Legion Post #67 in Miami Florida. He was a Protestant by faith and will be greatly missed but all who knew and loved him.


Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 from 4 to 6 PM then again on Thursday, February 18, 2021 from 8 AM to 11 AM the funeral hour when a funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home Chapel with Pastor Robert Ware officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington, where Military rites will be accorded by the US Army and the American Legion Post # 96 of Belington. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic face mask and social distancing are mandatory while paying your respects in the funeral home.
