Brad Weinkauf Obituary

BRADLEY JAY WEINKAUF was born on September 9, 1970, to Ramona (Lear) and Duane Weinkauf in Pipestone, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm in Jasper, Minnesota. He attended and graduated from Jasper High School in 1989. In his younger years he enjoyed farming with his father. He was an avid hunter whether it was rabbits, coyote, pheasant, deer or any other game. He was involved in 4-H and FFA showing his cattle at the county fair every year. One of his favorite activities was playing softball/baseball every summer. Anything to do with the outdoors was where his heart was happiest. He also loved shooting pool and he did this for many years. His team entered many pool tournaments and he even individually placed third one year. Brad also joined his mother in helping to organize and participate in the wheelchair pool tournaments in Hardwick. His favorite sports teams were the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins. Over the years, Brad was employed by Western Housing, Johnson Farms, Tom Dunn Farms, Napa and HogSlat. He married Darla (Miller) Griebel in 1999. He enjoyed helping raise her two daughters, Kileey and Karlie, and loved them as if they were his own. To this union, Brady Lyle Jay was born in July of 2000. He was completely overjoyed with the birth of his son. He taught all three kids about hunting, fishing, and his love for the great outdoors. In 2013, Brad and Darla divorced. His son, Brady was his pride and joy. Ever since Brady started t-ball, Brad never missed a baseball game. Brad loved helping coach the boys baseball teams over the years. Brad taught Brady everything he knew about sports, farming, hunting, and fishing. They spent many hours outside in the summer practicing sports and doing outdoor activities. Brad and Brady loved to spend Sundays together watching the Vikings. Brad began dating Billie in April of 2016. They had many great adventures together and loved to spend time doing outdoor activities. They enjoyed playing darts together and were on a team for a few years. They shared a love for their animals on the farm and gardening (Brad had the green thumb). Their relationship brought him amazing love, laughter, and adventure to his life. Brad loved Billie until the very end. In 2011, Brad was diagnosed with diabetes. Soon following that in 2014, he was diagnosed with kidney disease. He put up a strong and long fight battling this disease. He passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is survived by his son, Brady; his special friend, Billie DeSchepper; her children, Stephen and Sydney; siblings, Don Weinkauf of Hardwick, Minnesota, Pam (Jim) Schloendorf of Pipestone, Deb (Doug) Sorenson of Madison, South Dakota, and Jerry (Shawn) Weinkauf of Woodstock, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Kristie Weinkauf of Jasper; and nieces and nephews, April (Heath) Kooiman, Amber (Brian) Hoogestraat, Arrin Weinkauf, Jen (Brandon) Prouty, Nate Schloendorf, Rob Schloendorf, Sarah Weinkauf, Brandee Weinkauf, Kelsey (Josh) Kooiman, Dennis Sorenson, Duane Sorenson, Jordan Weinkauf, and Jaden Weinkauf.
