Laurietta "Laurie" Matheny Obituary

Laurietta "Laurie" Matheny, 81, of Dell Rapids, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Her Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2021 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2021 with the family present from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. The Christian Wake service will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home.

Laurie was born on March 22, 1939 in Ipswich, SD to Earl and Bessie Fey. She married Michael Matheny on November 7, 1964. They celebrated their 45th anniversary before his death. They raised 3 children.

She traveled the world with her husband while he was serving 26 years in the United States Air Force, they retired in Dell Rapids, SD. She was heavily involved in the St Mary’s Altar Society and enjoyed playing cards and going out for lunch with her many friends.

She loved to garden! Spent all of her summers out back. She also liked to sew, fish, and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.

Laurie loved her family especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. Every time she was around them, she lit up! She enjoyed watching them play sports, their concerts, dance recitals and everything they were involved in.

Laurie was a gentle soul with a kind heart and will be missed. Remember the good times you had with her!

She is survived by her brother Robert Fey (Ann) of Brookings SD, daughters June Stanton (Steve), and Angie Ellison (Patrick) both of Dell Rapids, SD; her grandchildren, Amber (Zach) Stewart of Colman, SD, Hutten (Dusten) Dossett and great-granddaughter Harper of Dell Rapids, Griffin Ellison of Scarborough, ME, and Haley and Brenden Matheny of Chester, SD.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Michael, her son Greg, her brother and many sisters.
