Kariem Ali Kimbrough was born on December 17, 1973 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, son of the late Brenda Hayes Kimbrough and Eugene Grant. He was educated in the Linden Public School system and graduated from Linden High School in 1995. Immediately following the death of his mother in 1988, he moved to live with his oldest sister, Monique, who loved and cherished him as if he was her very own son. Kariem, affectionately known as “Dog,” was a kind and gentle spirit to know him was to love him. He had a nickname for everyone he came in contact with. He would laugh and call them by the nickname he chose for them and they would acknowledge him and laugh. Most days you could find Kariem watching talk shows, playing Madden on his PlayStation or just listening to YouTube. He would listen to speeches by Malcolm X or rap music. LL Cool J was still his favorite rapper. Kariem had no children, but he loved his nieces and nephews. When he would babysit them, he would make sure they knew his was in charge by saying “I’m going to pop you” which was his favorite saying. Kariem Ali Kimbrough departed this life on Monday, February 8, 2021 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway, New Jersey at the age of 47. He leaves to cherish precious memories, his sisters: Monique Faines of Linden, New Jersey (Eric), Qamar Kimbrough-Thompson (Eric) of Edison, New Jersey, Jetaya Kimbrough of Rahway, NJ, Ieasha Kimbrough of Newark, New Jersey; two brothers: Mutta Kimbrough (Tiffany) of Linden, New Jersey and Omar Kimbrough (Elaine) of Rahway, New Jersey; special cousins: Tajuanna Hayes Garrettson and Khalid Walker; and host of numerous of aunts, (uncles), nieces, nephews, cousins, loving family members and friends. Even during times of social distancing, anyone who has suffered a loss deserves love and support more than ever before.
