Cynthia Grimes Obituary

Cynthia Elizabeth Grimes was born September 10, 1959 in Robinsonvlile, N.C. to the late Ned and Mary Grimes. The family moved to Newark, New Jersey n in 1960, then to Lakewood in 1969. Cynthia entered eternal life on Monday, February 1, 2021. Cynthia attended Lakewood schools. She worked as a Care giver at Lakewood Manor for a brief period, in the early 80’s. She later started childcare services for anyone that needed a hand. Cynthia would open her heart to anyone, no one was a stranger to Cynthia. She has probably cared for almost every child that grew up in Lakewood and then some. I know she cared for at least one of every one of her sibling’s children at some point in time. In 1984, Cynthia married Charles Matthews, although they eventually divorced, two children from this union, Katrina and Charles, Jr. were born. Cynthia later gave birth to Leonard Matthews and Demetrius Higgins, and last but not least her baby girl Jalissa DeJesus. Cynthia attended ITM More than Conquerors Intl. Tabernacle Ministries faithfully until she became ill. Cynthia was a beautiful person, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who had a personality that loved you to the moon and back and tell you about yourself while flashing that beautiful smile. She injected her opinion solicited or not, which is how she earned her nickname affectionately AKA MISS SOPHIA “. Cynthia loved life and enjoyed it to the end. She loved her children most of all, then her family and friends. She would give her last to help. WE ALL MISS YOU ALREADY AND THAT BEAUTIFUL SMILE, MISS SOPHIA!! WE LOVE YOU. Cynthia leaves to cherish her memories her children, Katrina Matthews, Charles Matthews, Jr. and his wife Ann, Leonard Matthews, Demetrius Higgins, Jalissa DeJesus. Siblings Diane Stephens, Pat Atlantic, Ricky ‘Grimes, Anthony Grimes, Felicia Craighead and Victor Grimes. Six grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Even during times of social distancing, anyone who has suffered a loss deserves love and support more than ever before. Let the family know you care by leaving treasured memories, thoughts and prayers on the Tribute Wall.
