Lawrence "Larry" C. Lucas

Lawrence C. “Larry” Lucas, 70, of Burnham, passed away at 7:55 p.m., Monday, Feb. 8, 2021, at his home with his wife and family at his side.  

Born Jan. 1, 1951, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Lawrence G. Lucas Jr. and Lela Mae (Luther) Lucas.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ed Palmer.    

Larry is survived by: his wife, Delores “Dee” (Hunt) Lucas; daughter, Kimberly A. Dean and husband, Randy, of Lewistown; grandsons, Lucas Poche and Trevor Middaugh, both of Lewistown; step-granddaughters, Megan Prisk and husband, Tyler, and Rachel Dean, both of Altoona; great-grandchildren, Lily and Gavyn Middaugh, of Lewistown; siblings, Melanie Palmer, of Talkeetna, Alaska, and Kim Lucas and wife, Cindy, of McAlisterville; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.   

He graduated from Chief Logan High School, Class of 1968, and attended Carson-Newman University, in Tennessee.

He was Baptist by faith.

Larry retired from Verizon in 2014, leaving behind numerous co-workers he felt very blessed to have worked with.   

He loved being outdoors, whether it was taking walks in the woods, looking for that next tree that he would cut down and split for his wood stove, sitting on the patio during a rainstorm with a large glass of home brewed iced tea anticipating the next awesome lightning strike, or simply sitting in his chair soaking up the afternoon sun.  When he knew of a forecasted meteor shower, he would call numerous friends and relatives and tell them to be sure to look to the skies.  Larry would sit outside for hours hoping to catch a glimpse of just one shooting star and would even get up numerous times during the night to catch one more. 

He thoroughly enjoyed reading fiction and non-fiction and looked forward to receiving Barnes & Noble gift cards for his birthday and at Christmas. 

Larry loved all genres of music.  In his younger days, he was the drummer for “The Ivies”.  The Ivies’ last gig was playing at their 20th high school reunion, where they were the hit of the night, ending with the song, “Louie Louie”.  When Lily and Gavyn visited, he especially loved giving them their first piano lessons.

Larry was given the gift of gab and would strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and kept you there, usually for longer than you expected.  He loved traveling and was fortunate to have visited all but eight of the fifty states. 

He was a handsome, generous, and kind person who will be missed by all that knew him.  Rest in Peace, my Love.

Summertime was Lawrence's favorite time of year, so in keeping with his wishes, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, June 27, 2021, at White Memorial Congregational Church, 1198 Locke Mills Road, Milroy (Siglerville), with Reverend Paul Carter officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:30 p.m. at the church. 

Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan Street, Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
