Billie P. Colbert was born November 18, 1923 in Henrietta, Oklahoma. She moved to the Washington, D.C. area at age 18 and began working for the Federal Government. She retired from the Department of Commerce after 30 years of federal service and subsequently worked as a secretary for the Provost at Rappahannock Community College in Warsaw, Virginia. She was extremely creative with quilting, sewing and artwork. She was also a talented pianist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles H. Pettit and Edna Logan Pettit; her husband of 60 years, Russell F. Colbert; and her brother Charles H. Pettit. She leaves a brother, John D. Pettit of Oak Dale, Louisiana; a daughter Debra Givens; and son-in-law Thomas Givens, residing in Knoxville, Tennessee. She also leaves several loving cousins.
