Madeleine Betty Cozzens Obituary

Madeleine Betty Cozzens, 74, of Locust Grove, Virginia, died January 28, 2017 at home surrounded by family. She was a loving sister, mother and grandmother. Madeleine was born November 20, 1942 in Washington, D.C. She grew up in the Cherrydale area of Arlington, Virginia. She was an Honored Queen for Bethel 35, International Order of Job's Daughters. She graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia. She was employed for many years at Chevy Chase Bank in Maryland in the signature card resolution department and retired from there. She loved to read. For most of her life she also enjoyed working on her crafts hobbies, often selling them at area craft shows and online. She is survived by her spouse, Norman Thompson, Jr.; her sons Mark Newlon and Troy Newlon and his wife Cindy Newlon; two grandsons, Anthony and Nicholas Newlon; her sister, Jeanette Embrey; and three nephews, Myles, D. Richard and Christopher Embrey. She was preceded in death by her parents Richard Arthur and Betty Marie Cozzens, and great-nephew Ryan Embrey. A memorial service will be held in Falls Church, Virginia, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ALS Association, PO Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022.
