Vernie "Vern" Olenyk Obituary

In Loving Memory of Vern Olenyk

1936 - 2021

Vern Olenyk of Lacombe passed away peacefully at the age of 84.  Vern was born to Bessie and Shafron Olenyk in Bonanza, Alberta on June 9, 1936, the youngest of seven children.
He moved to Dawson Creek where he worked at the Texaco gas bar and did small engine repair. He married Sarah in 1963. Sarah had two children, Marilyn and Rick, and they became a family.

After being married in Port Coquitlam, the family moved to Penticton where Vern got a job in management at the post office.  In 1971, Vern and Sarah moved to Prince George where Vern was a letter carrier for 17 years. Sarah passed away in 1994, and Vern continued working for a couple more years before retiring and moving to Red Deer.

Vern married Sharon in 2000 and the two settled in Lacombe.

He loved his doggy companions, and was always talking to them, taking them on walks, and giving them treats. Vern enjoyed camping and going on cruises, which leaves many fond memories for his family. He also loved watching sports, especially wrestling.

Vern is survived by his wife Sharon, his children Rick and Marilyn, three grandchildren, Sharon’s three daughters and seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
