Marc Roger Chevrier

DR. Marc Roger Chevrier, PHD, MD, FACR, age 54, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 after a brief illness. Marc was born on May 25, 1966 in Charlottesville, VA to his parents Alexandra Poulos Chevrier and Jean-Claude Chevrier. Within three months of his birth, his family moved to Wilmington, DE. , Where Marc lived during his childhood. Marc was pre-deceased in death by his mother, (Sandy-1982) and his father (Jean-Claude-2015). Also, his paternal grandparents, Serge Chevrier and Henriette Chevrier of Hericy, France; his maternal grandparents, George Poulos and Helen Poulos of MD, his step-mother, Nesta High Chevrier of DE, his father in law, Joseph Slentz, his mother in law, Joann Slentz and a sister in law, Barbara Slentz. Marc is survived by his wife, Diane Slentz Chevrier and their ten children: Joseph Slentz, Sabina Chevrier, Marie Claire Chevrier, Jean-Paul Chevrier, Phillipe Chevrier, Benjamin Chevrier, Eric Chevrier, Evie Chevrier, Lexie Chevrier and Jacob Chevrier (in the order of their birth). Also surviving Marc is his step-mother, Maggie Ann Chevrier (DE), two step sisters Kathy High Dodge (Bill) (NJ) and Shana Dulin DeFrancesca (DE), three step-brothers : Robert High Jr.(Monica) (FL), Randy Dulin (Regina) (NJ), and Sean Dulin(Melisa) (DE). His surviving brothers in law and sisters in law are: Ed Slentz (Barbara) (DE), Patricia Slentz (DE), Tom Slentz (Becca) (MD), Marie Smith (DE), Kathy Holland (MD). A maternal uncle, Jim Poulos lives in MD. Two paternal aunts: Colette Cristescu (Michel) and Simone Chevrier, both live in France. Marc has numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in both the USA and in France on both sides of the family; too many to list here. Marc attended public school from Kindergarten through the 5th grade. From the 6th-12th grade he attended Tower Hill School in Wilmington, DE. After graduating from Tower Hill in 1984, Marc left Wilmington, DE, to attend Cornell University (1984-1988) in Ithaca, NY. He earned his BA in both Biology and Chemistry. (Which required a course (OF COURSE) in wine making and tasting, because as a descendant from French, German and Greek genes, wine making was in his DNA). Next, Marc went to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, where he earned his PHD in Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences. (1988-1993) But Marc had a goal to pursue - he was interested in making a difference in solving autoimmune diseases and the issues surrounding that condition, so, he made the decision to enroll in medical school in order to fulfill his ambitions. With his PHD in hand, Marc signed up at The University of Maryland School of Medicine (1993-1997) where he earned his MD, while completing a Research Fellow Fellowship in Rheumatology (6/93-3/95). He, then, completed his Internship in Internal Medicine (7/98-6/99), also, at University of Maryland. He never ceased to be intellectually curious, always looking for the right answers to the hard to define questions. He was the perpetual student and never seemed to slow down in his search for knowledge. Marc was published (25-30 times) as the author, corresponding author, co-author, or contributor to scientific/medical articles or research papers throughout his career in his field of expertise and interest. He received many Awards and Industry Recognitions for his contributions during his career. To mention one example—in 2018 he received a Medical Visionary Award at a national conference for his contributions in management and treatment of Lupus. Another example of his hard work is the number of awards he has received from his employers for maintaining excellent Standards of Leadership in his supervisory and management roles in positions he held. As Head of Clinical Development and Lupus Strategy, he was involved in several Key Industry Clinical Research Projects which included at least six new drugs in field trials completed successfully. Marc was Board Certified in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine. He currently was employed at Janssen R&D, LLC (Johnson & Johnson). There he was Head, Lupus-Portfolio Strategy—Attending Physician-Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology. Having had several different positions at Janssen Pharmaceutical and Centocor (also a J & J subdivision), Marc was provided with many opportunities to accomplish his goals of which he achieved many. Previously, Marc was employed by Human Genome Sciences where he planned and supervised the research, development, field trials and marketing of an important drug in the field of autoimmune diseases. He spent some time as an assistant Professor at the University of Maryland -School of Medicine. He had Fellowships at Johns Hopkins, The National Institute of Health and other institutions as part of his ongoing professional development. Marc was always involved in any and everything having a connection to medicine, electronics or mechanical operations. Those were his hobbies. If a friend asked how to do something, Marc could always provide the answer (and) a correct one. He was always there, willing to help family, friends and strangers alike. Marc was a big man with an even bigger and kinder heart. He was proud of his academic achievements, but the thing he was most proud of was his family - his wife Diane, their wonderful children (and their four pugs). His immediate family, his diverse and large extended family, and all his friends will miss him terribly. Marc you leave a huge hole in our hearts that cannot be easily filled. Until we meet again, we bid you a sweet, fond and loving farewell. Relatives and friends are invited to a Viewing from 8:00-9:30 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Emil J.
