Annie Frances Bramlett Gibbs, 93, stepped across time and into the eternal presence of the Lord just before dawn on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. Although clouds filtered the sunrise near her recent sojourn in Brandon, MS, Frances awoke to the incomparable light of His glory. Frances loved to love on people and she leaves behind many friends who miss her but rejoice that her journey is complete.

As the oldest of six children in a rural farming family in Pontotoc County, Frances learned very early that life required hard work. She epitomized that stoic ethic and never shirked her duty, but also embodied a loving spirit of generosity and kindness throughout her long and fruitful time on earth. Even though life during the Great Depression was difficult, she quickly discovered a lifelong gift and love for flowers, gardening, and all things “green.” Her knowledge and talent for making things grow was so vast, that family members who affectionately called her “Grammy” are convinced she could even root Popsicle sticks.

Frances married James O. Gibbs of Corinth, MS, in 1948 and upon starting a family, she retired from her job with Singer and focused on raising two sons. Spiritual life was an integral part of family and she began serving alongside her husband in various roles at West Corinth Baptist Church. Together they helped share the gospel and introduce children to Jesus.

After Hattiesburg became home in 1970, Frances and James quickly found places of service at Temple Baptist Church. Over the years, they enjoyed many roles teaching and working behind the scenes to support the ministries of the church. In later years, a particular favorite was spending time with the “old folks” who were in “Prime Timers.” In addition to church activities, Frances and James also served others through various civic and volunteer organizations such as the Telephone Pioneers of America and Family Campers, where they traveled extensively. Both she and James were instrumental in starting Camp Bluebird, a weekend camp for adult cancer patients and survivors who gathered biannually at Paul B. Johnson State Park to enjoy food, fun, and share life experiences. They also took the lead in constructing the beautiful Blue Bird Chapel at Paul B. Johnson, which continues to benefit campers and visitors alike. Later, they served as short-term missionaries, usually functioning as primary support for medical personnel who were ministering to indigenous peoples in Honduras and Jamaica.

The family members who remain to cherish her memory and continue her legacy are her sons Michael (Lynn) and Greg (Pam); seven grandchildren: Chris (Cynthia), Sam (Emily), Joseph (Andrea), Sarah (Brad), Amanda (Drew), Katie (Chris), and Tom (Josie); and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, James Elzee and Steve Bramlett (Dianne), and a sister, Ollie Merritt, plus many other nieces, nephews and friends.

Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon is in charge of the graveside services to be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Magnolia Gardens Cemetery in Corinth, MS.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Missions fund of Park Place Baptist Church, Pearl, MS or to the IMB Ministry of Michael Holyfield – Far East Russia (Siberia)
