Vickie Lynn (Benfield) Adams Hockessin, Delaware - Vickie Lynn (Benfield) Adams, age 73, of Hockessin, DE went home to be with the Lord on February 1, 2021. Vickie was the youngest of two children born to George Calvin Benfield and Helen Elizabeth (Crawford Benfield) Coughey in Newton, North Carolina. She made friends easily and was always happy. Vickie was a graduate of Buchtel High School (Akron, Ohio) and attended college at Akron and achieved an Associate Degree in French at Wright State in Ohio. She married Kenneth Gordon Adams October 31st, 1966 and together they raised two children. Their family grew to include two grandchildren. Outside the home Vickie held positions at Merced Racquet Club (CA), Merced County, HP Products and Stark Technical College in Ohio. Vickie was an avid tennis player and was active in Women's Tennis Club New Castle County planning matches and writing the newsletter. In her younger years she excelled in racquetball playing many tournaments at the open level in CA. She also taught racquetball. Vickie enjoyed travel and while living in Northern Ireland for five years visited Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Greece and Tanzania. We lived at 15 different addresses during our married years, visited most of the states as well as Mexico and Canada. At some locations she was able to use her French language. Vickie was predeceased by her parents, George Calvin Benfield and Helen Elizabeth (Crawford Benfield) Coughey, her stepfather James Coughey, brother-in-law, James Howard Adams, sister-in-law, Amy Hill Adams, niece, Elizabeth Jane (Adams) Helsel and 12 aunts and uncles. Survivors include husband Kenneth Gordon Adams, sons Todd Gordon Adams, Rico Adams of Wilmington, Delaware, daughter Shawn Elise (Adams) Lucas of North Canton, Ohio, sister Diane Benfield of Scottsdale, Arizona, grandchildren Anelise Belle Newlin and Van Adams Lucas of North Canton, Ohio as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial will be planned for a later date. Donations can be made in Vickie’s name in lieu of sending flowers to the Cure for Alzheimer’s. You said you were tired And wanted to rest You said you were ready Your life had been blessed To have no more struggles Or pain to endure To finally see loved ones Who passed on before The Lord called you home Away from the pain Now our great loss Is heavens great gain We love you and miss you.
