Thomas E. Weaver Obituary

Thomas E. Weaver, 73, of New Bloomfield, passed away Monday February 1, 2021 at UPMC Carlisle Hospital. Born September 13, 1947, in Millersburg, he was the son of the late Nevin and Ruth (Morgan) Weaver. On June 15, 1968, he was united in marriage with Kathy Jean (Tillis) Weaver with whom he has shared a blessed union of 52 years. In 1969, Thomas was the first graduate of the college program at the Penn View Bible Institute and was a member of the Institutes first Quartet. Thomas enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1971 where he served for six years. He was an Honor Graduate from Boot Camp, graduated top of his class from Marine Aerial Navigator school and earned the rank of Sergeant before attending Officer Candidates School. Thomas was Honorably Discharged from the USMC at the rank of First Lieutenant and went on to serve in the US Army National Guard for 4 years. Thomas was employed for many years as an Executive working in the auto auction industry; but, his yearning for the open road, and the sense of freedom it presented, led him to work as an Owner Operator in the trucking industry for more than a decade. He would eventually, and reluctantly, retire from trucking due to health-related issues. Initially sparked by his military experience as an Aerial Navigator, a love for flying led him to become a licensed pilot and he enjoyed flying his family to vacation destinations and taking day trips with his wife Kathy Jean. A generous and giving person, Thomas supported many charitable organizations, missions, and deserving causes. Thomas had a lifelong passion for music and he played the guitar, the upright bass and the saxophone. He also wrote music and penned several songs. Thomas was a man of many other talents, including an impressive level skill, for a home improvement amateur, in many of the construction trades. Always outgoing, funny, and sincere, Thomas made friends everywhere he went. Thomas was a devout Christian that loved God and tried to live his life as a testimony to his Lord and Savior. He put his education to good use as well, and his talents as Sunday School teacher were legendary. He attended God’s Missionary Church of Newport. Thomas is survived by his wife, Kathy Jean Weaver and sons, Douglas E. Weaver and Duane T. Weaver, both of New Bloomfield. He is also survived by a grandson, Eli Weaver and his mother, Nikki; sister, Arlene Gessner and her husband Dale, of Middleburg, and their children, Dr. Jonathan Gessner and Judy Witmer and their families. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the prenatal passing of a son, Philip. His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday February 13, 2021 at Blessed Hope Bible Church located at 6 Witmer Road, Liverpool, PA 17045. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. with services to follow at 11:00 A.M. The services will be officiated by Rev. Philip Brenizer and Pastor Johnathan Arnold. Penn View Bible Institute will provide musical ministry and be represented by President Daniel P. Durkee. In keeping with the current health guidelines, attendees are encouraged to exercise proper precautions including the wearing of face coverings and appropriate social distancing. Those wishing to remember Thomas are asked to consider a memorial contribution to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, D.C. 20090-7251 or at gideons.org.
