Donald R. Meierdiercks

Donald R. Meierdiercks, 93, of Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Clifton Park, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2021. Born on July 25, 1927, he was the son of the late Charles K. Meierdiercks and Grace Pierson Connell. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Cecilia M. Meierdiercks. Don was born in Orange, NJ. He attended Forest Hills High School in Queens, NY. In 1945, Don enlisted in the Navy. He completed basic training and advanced electronics training on the west coast and was honorably discharged due to illness in 1946. He worked briefly in the NBC mail room at Rockefeller Center before attending Davis and Elkins College on the GI bill. Don went on to pursue graduate studies at the University of West Virginia where he earned an MS degree in Mathematics. For several years he was a business applications programmer for Sylvania Electric Company. In 1960 Don began a 27-year association with General Electric, first at Electronics Park in Syracuse and from 1967 in Schenectady, designing and implementing business applications on their large-scale Honeywell computers. He retired from GE in 1987 but continued doing consulting work. Don had lifelong interests in photography, singing and travel. Cecilia and Don enjoyed Elderhostel trips, traveled throughout Europe and Canada, and as far away as New Zealand. They were active members of the Shenendehowa Senior Center. Don was also a member of the GE Elfun Society and worked as a volunteer for Haven of Schenectady. He will always be remembered for his wry sense of humor and commitment to fairness. He is survived by his daughters Diane (Frank) Manion, Debra (Tom) Carey, and Donna (Paul Murrain) Meierdiercks, sons Don Jr. (Sally), Dave (Jan), Dan (Paula), Dale (Michelle), and Dean Meierdiercks (Lee Blanton). He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother, Kenneth Meierdiercks and a half-sister Karen Meierdiercks. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 1st at 1 p.m. in the in the Jonesville Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Red Cross or The Community Hospice.
