John M. McGuigan Obituary

John McGuigan John McGuigan of Philadelphia, 59 years old, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021. John was the 8th of 10 children of the late Hugh A. and Jeanne M. McGuigan. John is survived by his 9 siblings Patrick (Judi), Rev. Hugh OSFS, Maria, Michael (Linda), Kathleen, Dennis (Diana), Joseph, Jeanne (Chester) and Maureen and his loving partner of many years Angela Fazio and her children Anthony, Lisa and Christina (Anthony). Treasured uncle of many nieces and nephews, numerous other family members, the Carr family, and devoted friends from near and far. John was born on November 18, 1961, at Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia just like all of his siblings. The hit song Big Bad John was #1 on the charts at the time and John wore that moniker well through his 59 years. He was retired from the Philadelphia Gas Works, Local 686, after 30 stellar years of service to the citizens of his beloved city. His work record was unblemished with only a few sick days over those years. John was Port Richmond through and through having been born and raised there and making it his home when he bought his house. His youth was spent playing sports and swimming at Cohocksink Playground around the corner from his childhood home. John was a record setting swimmer in the Philadelphia Public League at Frankford High School from which he graduated in 1979. He was a member of AOH Division 87 from which he shared so many great times with the members of the club. John became a great golfer and always had his clubs and his cooler in his trunk ready for action. John traveled near and far spending summers in Wildwood and many periods of time in the fall and winter in Fort Myers, Florida. He enjoyed his visits to Boston and Chicago to see his Phillies play; To call him a huge Philadelphia sports fan is an understatement. John could best be described as a gentle giant with a heart of gold who would go out of his way to do anything for anyone. His warm smile and contagious energy touched and made an impact on everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Friday February 12th 9:00 AM at Nativity BVM Church 2535 E. Allegheny Ave. Phila., PA 19134. Funeral Mass 11:00 AM. Interment Private.
