Marilyn Catherine Heflin Obituary

Marilyn Catherine Heflin November 6, 1930 – February 1, 2021 On Monday morning, February 1st 2021, Marilyn (Moe) Heflin surrounded by her children, peacefully passed away at the age of 90 at her home in Bellevue Washington. Marilyn was born on November 6, 1930 in Ballard Washington to May and Edward Ninneman. She had 3 sisters, Mickey Woodworth, Charlotte Sollars, Margaret Helander, and her brother, Edward Ninneman. Marilyn was raised in Ballard where she attended St. Alphonsus Catholic School. She then went on to Seattle University. While at Seattle University, she met her true love Benjamin Thomas Heflin who was attending the University of Washington. The two married on Dec. 26th 1949. They were married until Ben’s passing in 2005. Over the next 10 years Ben and Moe had 7 kids. 2 girls and 5 boys. Chris, Jim, Mike, John, Tim and Tom Heflin and Maureen Still. They lived in Spokane Wa, Portland Or, Magnolia Wa and finally settled down in Bellevue Wa in 1962 where Moe lived the rest of her life. Moe stayed home and raised her large family until the youngest was in school. She then took a job as a paralegal at a law firm in Bellevue. After that she worked for the Bellevue school district until she retired. Moe loved a lot of things. Boating with friends, playing bridge, doing puzzles but most of all Moe loved to play golf. She had a horrible swing but that didn’t seem to matter because she played great. She and Ben belonged to Glendale country club where she played on the ladies team. Her love of the game was only surpassed by her love of the people she played with. Moe was an active member of St. Louise Catholic church since 1968. Happily volunteering to set up and run weddings and funeral receptions. She did this for years. Loving her church and all the friends she made there made it easy for her to give her time. Her children also attended school at St. Louise. Moe loved life. Her 7 kids, 16 grandkids and 1 great grandchild made her proud and happy. She was always ready to have drink and a laugh at the kitchen table. Her sarcastic wit was epic and she kept it to the very end. She welcomed everyone in her home and made them feel like family. Organized chaos was pretty much the norm in the Heflin house. Marilyn Catherine Cecilia Heflin was bigger than life. Better than any mom we could have asked for or deserved. She left this world a better place and we are thankful we got to call her friend, Aunt, sister, Grandma but most of all Mom. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that you save your money and have a drink to Moe. We think she would have liked that.
