Mary Lou Talley

Mary Lou Talley, age 90, of Rome, passed away peacefully February 1, 2021, at the home of her daughter, Martha.<br/><br/>She was born June 16, 1930, in Elmira, a daughter of the late Audley and Helen Pease Brewer, attended Alfred College and graduated from Syracuse University in 1953. Mary Lou was united in marriage to John H. Talley on June 18, 1953, a blessed marriage of 56 years; he died on March 29, 2009. She formerly worked as a laboratory technician and later taught adult education at BOCES in Rome. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Rome.<br/><br/>Mary was very active in the Rome community. She was a member of the Dogwood Twigs at Rome Memorial Hospital for over 60 years, volunteering in the Gift Shop and Snack Bar as well as setting up TV’s and telephones for patients. She also was an active member and activities volunteer at the First Presbyterian Church for 66 years. Mary was a proud blood donor and volunteer for the Red Cross blood donation program, having donated over 13 gallons of blood and later volunteering at blood donation drives.<br/><br/>Mary Lou is survived by her children, Martha (Jane) Talley of Central Square, and Ruth Talley of Bangor, ME, John Talley of Weymouth, MA, Jim (Liz) Talley of Falls Church, VA, and Paul (Dale) Talley of Greensboro, NC; a sister, Linda (Steve) McGunnigle of Cohocton, NY; two brothers, William (Janice) Brewer of Elmira and Robert (Mary Ann) Brewer of Corning; grandchildren, Gage, Griffin, Sean and Lindsey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Joyce Brewer Wasson and Nancy Brewer Pierce.<br/><br/>A memorial service will be held at a later date.<br/><br/>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jervis Public Library or Rome Humane Society.<br/><br/>Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Martha, my condolences to your family. I loved visiting with your Mom. We would often walk our dogs through the neighborhood at the same time. I was so sad to see the notice of her passing. May she Rest In Peace.
