Gerald "Jerry" Sanderson Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Sanderson, 71, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Iowa River Hospice Home.  Jerry (Gerald Lee) Sanderson was born August 8, 1949, to parents Marvin and Lois (née Lindaman) of Beaman, IA. He left us too soon on February 1, 2021.   It’s been said by many that Jerry knew no strangers. Whether he was driving truck, running a repair shop with his brother Ricky, working at Green Products, or simply participating in his favorite pastime of fishing, Jerry always made friends, some for a moment, and most for a lifetime. There was always room at his table to share a laugh and friendship. Jerry was an avid gardener and had a great knack for growing and sharing his bounty. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed sharing the knowledge he gained. You didn’t want to play Trivial Pursuit with him. He also had a love of music that he passed on to his children and grandchildren. As most know, Jerry could repair just about anything. He was gregarious, knowledgeable, handy as the pocket on his own shirt, and loved sharing stories that made people roar with laughter. To use one of Jerry’s favorite terms, he was salt of the earth. He also liked to say if he was any better he’d be twins.  His personality was larger than life, so twin sized seems appropriate.  Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ricky and Kenny and step daughter Leah. He is survived by his wife, Linda Hurlbutt, kids Tammy (Brian) Creveling of Aurora, CO., Dru (Laura) Sanderson of Glenview, IL., Aaron (Elizabeth) Sanderson of Evanston, IL., and Neal Hurlbutt of Conrad, IA. Grandchildren, Damian Cortez, Emma and Rebecca Sanderson, Doug Cornelius, and one great grandson, Zaiden Cortez. He’s also mourned by 7 loving siblings (Barb, Bobby, LeeAnn, Gary, Denny, Linda, Lori), their spouses and a passle of nieces, nephews and their children.  Due to health restrictions, a graveside service for family will be held Sunday Feb 7th and a memorial life celebration will be held in the summer, date pending. Memorial donations may be sent to Linda Hurlbutt at 212 Main St. Liscomb, IA 50148.
