Frank W. Atherton

Frank W. Atherton, 88, of Little Cove, PA, died February 1, 2021 at Shippensburg Health Care Center, Shippensburg, PA. Born April 22, 1932, in Mercersburg, PA he was a son of the late Clarence and Grace (Keefer) Atherton. Frank attended school in the Corner. He was a former employee of Heisey's Orchards, and worked for Martin-Marietta of Pinesburg, MD for 16 years. Frank retired from PennDOT following 29 years of service. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandson, Derek Piper, whom he helped to raise. He was a member of American Legion Post #517, Mercersburg. Surviving are his wife, Rachael E. (Moats) Atherton, whom he married July 6, 1983. A daughter, Sharyn K. (James) Wolfe and grandson, Derek A. Piper all of Little Cove. Frank was preceded in death by four siblings, Lottie Robinson, Mary Clever, Alice Hensen, and Amos Atherton. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg. Arrangements by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Inc., Mercersburg, PA.
