Frances J. Westphal

Frances J. Westphal, 99, of Burlington died at 6:30 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2021 at SunnyBrook Assisted Living in Burlington. Born November 20, 1921 in West Bend, Iowa at her parents farm she was the daughter of Ernest D. and Rekie F. (Schafer) Anliker. She married Murlin Ivan Westphal on September 24, 1939. He died March 3, 1993. Frances was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She attended West Bend Schools and graduated from Ft. Dodge Beauty School before getting married. Frances operated a beauty shop prior to being a secretary at Huron School for 10 years from which she retired. She focused on homemaking and being a good wife, mother, and grandmother. Frances also loved to read, listen to music and dance. She was the Dancing Granny’s Director for many years. Survivors include her children, Janette K. (Bob) Siegel, Jonelle L. (Larry) Derry, and James Westphal all of Burlington, IA; nine grandchildren, Kevin (Sue) Siegel, Brenda (Dan) West, Caprice Fowler, Lori Beckman, Joshua (Jamie) Derry, Adam (Jackie) Derry, Robert (Libby) Derry, Krista Warren, and Kathy Westphal; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elma Lou Hohulin of Arlington, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers; one sister; and two brothers in infancy. The private family graveside funeral service and interment for Frances will be held Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Pastor Ryan Cosgrove will officiate. Friends may call from noon-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10th at Lunning Chapel. The family will not be present at this time.
