William "Bill" Arthur Obituary

William (Bill) Arthur passed on February 1, 2021. Bill was born on April 4, 1939 to Leslie and Doreen Arthur in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Bill moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1956 where he lived the remainder of his life. Here he met his wife, Toni Arthur, of 51 years. They moved into their lifelong home in Belmont in 1971, where they raised their family. He was a dedicated and loving father and devoted husband. Bill will be remembered as an avid fisherman, bowler, and gardener. He loved fishing the lakes and streams around Mt Shasta, the Truckee River, Strawberry Lake in Pinecrest, and the ocean. He’s spent time fishing for salmon in Alaska, the Puget Sound, outside the Golden Gate, and offshore from Half Moon Bay, and he frequently fished for smelt with his Hawaiian throw-net out at Martin’s Beach just south of Half Moon Bay. He was a lifelong and frequent bowler - spending many of his evenings at Bel Mateo Bowl in various leagues or performing his duties as secretary of the league. On his weekends he would often be found in the garden where he grew corn, tomatoes, beans, zucchini, plums, peaches, oranges, lemons, nectarines, and apples. He even raised chickens for a while in the 1970s. He often spent his evenings with friends and family playing cards or dominoes - one of his favorite activities to do. He grew up a water skier in his teenage and early adult years. He took up snow skiing with his family in the late 1970s and this quickly became a favorite activity for them all. So much so, that Bill and Toni acquired a place in South Lake Tahoe so they could spend summer and winter days exploring the high country. Bill was also an active member of Paul’s soccer team. He was a coach and was part of the board that started Belmont Oaks CYSA soccer club. Once out of high school, Bill worked in the financial district of San Francisco, while he also obtained his Associates degree from the College of San Mateo. He later became the bookstore manager at the College of San Mateo. At this time he met his beloved wife, Toni, and they married in November of 1969. Exactly 9 months later, Paul was born...hmmmm. During his time as a bookstore manager, he started his own company, named The Pea Press, printing readers and materials for local community colleges. This part time endeavor quickly grew into a very successful, full time business. His home hosted two printing presses, commercial paper cutters, collator, drill press, and other tools of the trade, while the remainder of the house, such as the hallways and rooms, were filled with stacks of paper. In 1985, as his business quickly expanded into new markets, he purchased a warehouse and moved his business to San Carlos where he continued to operate it successfully with Toni and Bev until he retired in June 2014. He is survived by his loving wife, Toni, who resides in Belmont. He is also survived by his daughter, Beverly Schumacker, and her husband Brian Schumacker. They reside in South San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by his son, Paul Arthur, his wife Stephanie Arthur, and their two sons Zach and Nate. They currently live in Seattle, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Verna, and his niece Tracy.
