Betty Jean Martin, of High River, passed away at the High River Hospital on January 31, 2021 at the age of 84 years. Betty will be dearly missed by her children: Ed (Joan) Patton of Rockyview, Pam (Russell) Potter of Dalmead, Glenda (Blair) Rusnack of Rockyview, Bill (Carrie) Patton of Priddis, Tamara Patton of High River as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was born to Ed and Vernona Barraclough on July 22, 1936, and was raised in Calgary. As a child, Betty enjoyed ice skating, sledding and playing baseball. At the young age of 15 years old, she met Harvey Patton and later they married and together, farmed and raised their family just outside of Calgary. Betty particularly loved growing her vegetable gardens there. She eventually returned to the city and worked as a receptionist as well as at a day care centre. She later relocated to Strathmore where she managed the Best Western Hotel for many years. She retired to High River in 2002. Here, she thoroughly enjoyed attending community events such as the Little Britches and Santa Claus parades as well as local rodeos and would spend countless hours watching wildlife go by her living room window. Betty will always be remembered as a beautiful, strong, caring person with a compassionate nature that people were drawn to. She was always proud of her children and grandchildren. “We Love You Mom, Forever And A Day!” Betty’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the High River Hospital for the excellent care that Betty received.
